On June 21st, 1933, Willi Memmert founded a small electrical business — "Elektro-Ing-Buero-Willi Memmert" — in a timber-framed house in Schwabach, a town in Franconia, Bavaria. The company's 90th anniversary in 2023 prompted Memmert to document its history in detail: Willi Memmert is described as having combined technical invention with an international commercial orientation from the outset. In 1976, following his sudden accidental death, Grete Memmert Riefler and Peter Riefler took over management. The company is now in its third generation of family ownership. Managing Director as of the sources available is Philipp Schwarm. A third-party revenue estimate (RocketReach, 2025) places annual revenue at $101.7 million. Memmert does not publish official revenue figures.
Facilities and structure
Memmert GmbH + Co. KG operates at two locations in Germany. The registered address is Äußere Rittersbacher Straße 38, 91126 Schwabach, Germany. The production facility address is Willi-Memmert-Straße 90-96, 91186 Büchenbach, Germany — named after the founder. The company employs more than 450 people across both sites. All products are developed and manufactured in Germany. Memmert operates sales subsidiaries and distribution networks internationally. The North American market is served through Memmert USA, LLC, which acts as master distributor. An Indian subsidiary, Memmert India Laboratory Equipment Private Limited (MILEPL), was established in 2014, following a branch office opened in 2012. India had been a distribution market since the late 1950s. A China operation is also active, with a General Manager for China announced at Analytica Shanghai.
In April 2025, Memmert GmbH + Co. KG announced a strategic commercial partnership with Aralab (Sintra, Portugal) for distribution of products in China. Memmert USA confirmed the partnership launch. The Memmert–Aralab product collaboration also includes the TESTA environmental test chamber, which appears in both companies' catalogues.
Memmert launched a custom solutions brand called m360 for custom-made and specialised products. The m360 product line is listed in Memmert's official user manual downloads and includes models such as m360 ICH450/ICH450L, m360 HPPCeco, m360 ICHC, m360 UNplus/UFplus (universal ovens), m360 UFPlplus (plasticine oven), m360 VOcool (cooled vacuum oven), m360 UF1250TS (pass-through oven), and m360 UF750DW (dishwasher). The m360 brand was described at launch as addressing modernisation and automation requirements for industrial customers.

AtmoCONTROL software
AtmoCONTROL is Memmert's proprietary software for programming, monitoring, and data logging across networked Memmert appliances. The software runs on Windows and connects to Memmert devices via Ethernet. It supports programme creation and transfer, real-time parameter monitoring, and protocol read-out across multiple networked chambers simultaneously. AtmoCONTROL is available as a standard version (free download from the Memmert website) and as AtmoCONTROL FDA Edition — a compliance-specific version described as meeting the requirements of FDA 21 CFR Part 11 for electronic records and electronic signatures. A mobile app for monitoring Memmert products was listed as available from April 2026 in the official user manual index.
The supported device list for AtmoCONTROL (as of the April 2026 user manual index) includes: HCP, HPP, HPPeco, ICHeco L, ICP, IFplus, INplus, IPPecoplus, IPP, SFplus, SN, UFplus, UNplus, VO, and the m360 series variants. The software provides IQ/OQ documentation support for regulated environments. The calibration and qualification context for these programmes is at Environmental Test Chamber Calibration: What It Covers, What It Doesn't, and What to Do About the Gap.
Regulatory compliance documentation
Memmert publishes the following for regulated applications: IQ/OQ certification documentation for applicable products; FDA 21 CFR Part 11-aligned software (AtmoCONTROL FDA Edition); GLP-compliant data management; and calibration certificates. The ICH Q1A and ICH Q1B references appear in the HPP and ICH product documentation. The pharmaceutical stability and calibration context is covered in Environmental Test Chamber Calibration: What It Covers, What It Doesn't, and What to Do About the Gap.
Segments not in Memmert's published catalogue
Memmert does not manufacture HALT or HASS chambers, electrodynamic vibration systems, combined environment systems with simultaneous vibration and thermal stress, altitude/low-pressure chambers, or thermal shock chambers with rapid two-zone transfer. The product range is concentrated on laboratory temperature, humidity, stability, and incubation applications. For programmes requiring those capabilities, relevant chamber types are covered in HALT Testing, Vibration Test Chambers, Altitude Test Chambers, and Thermal Shock Testing. The full manufacturer comparison is at The Top 10 Environmental Test Chamber Manufacturers in the World.

AtmoCONTROL is not controller software — it's a test management system
Most environmental chamber manufacturers provide controller software: a way to programme a temperature profile, set alarm thresholds, and export a data log. Memmert's AtmoCONTROL is a different category of tool. It manages programmes across multiple chambers simultaneously, maintains a centralised repository of test protocols, tracks sample identifiers through test runs, generates reports that include chamber metadata alongside measurement data, and exports in formats compatible with laboratory information management systems.
For a single-chamber laboratory running occasional qualification tests, this distinction is irrelevant. For a multi-chamber stability laboratory running dozens of concurrent studies across multiple chambers — pharmaceutical stability, cosmetic stability, food shelf life — the difference between a controller and a test management system is several days of administrative work per month. Memmert positioned AtmoCONTROL specifically for multi-chamber, high-throughput regulated environments. If that describes your operation, it's worth evaluating seriously. If it doesn't, you're paying for capability you won't use.
The HPP humidity climate chamber: Memmert's core product for stability
The HPP (Humidity Climate Chamber) is Memmert's pharmaceutical stability and climate testing platform — ICH Q1A-compliant, 21 CFR Part 11-ready, and the chamber that accounts for the largest share of Memmert's regulated industry installations. HPP chambers are available from 108 litres through 749 litres, with a natural convection airflow option (HPP 110 eco) for applications where forced air would disturb lightweight samples.
Temperature range is +10°C to +70°C for humidity-controlled conditions, extending to +90°C without humidity. Humidity control from 10% to 90% RH within the temperature-controlled range. These are narrower ranges than some competitors' specifications — but the ICH Q1A storage conditions (25°C/60% RH for Zone II, 30°C/65% RH for Zone III, 40°C/75% RH for Zone IVb) all fall well within the HPP's operating envelope. If your programme stays within ICH conditions, the HPP's narrower range is not a practical limitation.
The AtmoCONTROL FDA Edition — the 21 CFR Part 11-validated version of the AtmoCONTROL software — provides the audit trail, electronic signature, and access control features required for FDA-inspected pharmaceutical manufacturing environments. Memmert validates the software package as a unit; the validation documentation package (IQ/OQ protocols, validation test reports, and traceability matrix) is available from Memmert and reduces the customer's validation effort relative to validating the system from scratch.
The TTC and CTC: temperature and climate testing for non-pharma applications
Memmert's non-pharmaceutical environmental testing product line includes the TTC (Temperature Test Cabinet) for temperature cycling without humidity, and the CTC (Climate Test Cabinet) for combined temperature and humidity testing. These serve electronics qualification, materials testing, and industrial component testing where the pharmaceutical-specific features of the HPP are not required.
CTC chambers cover -42°C to +190°C with humidity from 10% to 98% RH, in configurations from 56 litres through 749 litres. Ramp rates for the CTC reach 4.5°C/min for the standard configuration — comparable to Binder MKF. For programmes requiring faster ramp rates, the CTC is not the appropriate product; ESPEC or Weiss Technik offer configurations up to 20°C/min. The loaded ramp rate for your specific DUT should be calculated before accepting any published figure — the calculation is at Loaded Ramp Rate Calculator.
Founded 1933: what nine decades of manufacturing means
Memmert was founded in Schwabach, Bavaria in 1933 — initially producing incubators and drying ovens for laboratory and industrial use. Environmental test chambers were a later addition to the product line, but the company's heritage in precision temperature control for biological and chemical applications is visible in the HPP's calibration quality and the AtmoCONTROL's laboratory workflow orientation.
The company remains family-owned and Germany-based, manufacturing exclusively in Schwabach. This single-site model, like Binder in Tuttlingen and Thermotron in Holland Michigan, concentrates institutional knowledge and manufacturing quality control in one location. It also means lead times are tied to Schwabach production capacity — which during periods of high demand can extend to 12–16 weeks for standard models.
Service network and geographic reach
Memmert's direct service presence covers Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. For other European markets, service is through national distributors with Memmert factory support. The company has distributors in over 160 countries — unusually broad for a manufacturer of this size — which reflects the international reach of the pharmaceutical and biological research markets that the HPP serves.
For regulated pharmaceutical environments, Memmert's service contracts include calibration certificates traceable to national standards, which is a requirement for stability chambers under most pharmaceutical quality system frameworks. Confirm that the calibration service available in your country covers the specific measurement parameters and temperature/humidity setpoints used in your stability programme. The calibration requirements for stability chambers are covered in Environmental Test Chamber Calibration: What It Covers, What It Doesn't, and What to Do About the Gap.
Where Memmert is the strongest choice
Multi-chamber pharmaceutical stability laboratories running concurrent studies under GMP or FDA inspection are Memmert's clearest strength. The AtmoCONTROL FDA Edition, validated documentation package, and multi-chamber management capability address the workflow and compliance needs of this environment more directly than most competitors' offerings.
For single-chamber pharmaceutical stability, the choice between Memmert HPP, Binder KBF, and Aralab FitoClima Pharma is primarily one of controller software preference and local service availability. For standard electronics or automotive climatic testing where the pharmaceutical workflow features are irrelevant, Memmert CTC is a competent but unremarkable option — not the most cost-effective (Binder) nor the highest-performance (ESPEC, Weiss Technik). The full selection decision framework is at How to Choose an Environmental Test Chamber.
